                                                                                                       CALIBRATION

Calibration is based on so called   “biological calibration” using the Child with recently proven normal hearing ( free of cold,
infection, wax build up etc.).
You will need a quiet room without interference from other people, TV, Radio etc.

Child should be familiar with the animal pictures and sounds they make – if not please teach the Child using the TRAINING
procedure.

To calibrate your mobile phone or change calibration later you need to enter your USER number  (available after
downloading the testing programs).

1. Place the picture cards ( from PRINTS section) on the table in front of the child.
During calibration you can find the minimal volume level for each testing sound, being just loud enough for
the child to correctly recognize the sound and correlate it with the animal picture in a repetitive manner.

2. Speaker calibration ( Java, Android phones ).

Play these sounds from a distance about 30 cm at the child’s ear level and use the same distance later during
the hearing test.
This is not very critical for the screening test, because even a 50% change in this distance will reduce or increase
the sound volume by about  6dB only. Typical distance error will be much less than 50% and the sound intensity
error will be less than 5 dB which is a typical intensity step when testing hearing with audiometer.

3. Earphones calibration ( Android phones ).

The Insert L(left) and R(right) Earphones can be calibrated separately using the same  procedure as described
in
point 1. A special care should be taken to properly insert these Earphones into the Child’s ears.

Make also sure that if you choose to calibrate the L Earphone the sound is delivered to the L ear.
The same should be checked for the
R Earphone.

It is recommended to place a small colour stickers – blue onto the L  Earphone and red onto the R Earphone -
clearly visible during the test - to confirm their correct  placement (some earphones do not have any signs
L
and R or they are poorly visible).

During Speaker or Earphones calibration the volume level can be set up using the scale slider or buttons
“–“ and “+”. The
scale position is numbered.
Returning to the Main Menu will automatically save the calibrated levels for the screening tests even if later the mb. phone
was turned “off” and “on” again.
It is
advisable to keep a separate record of the calibration numbers for each sound to be able to restore calibration in case of
the phone malfunction and lack of the child with normal hearing - to repeat the calibration procedure. In such case the last
calibration can be restored by setting the same numbers again on the volume scale.
